What happened this week?
AXA Hong Kong partners with The Sandbox to become the first insurer in Hong Kong to enter the metaverse
Leading Hong Kong insurer will provide innovative digital experience for its customers through interactive activities on its LAND in The Sandbox.
Too Long Didn’t Read (TLDR)
AXA HK establishes a presence in The Sandbox. Compared to their efforts so far (acquisition of virtual land by AXA France and the creation of a dedicated VC fund), this new initiative seems more oriented to providing services in the virtual world.
Gary Ho, Chief Technology Officer, AXA Hong Kong and Macau, said: “I’m honored to announce that AXA has partnered with The Sandbox to expand our digital presence by setting foot in the metaverse. This collaboration has reflected AXA’s vision and interest to create the insurance of the future by bringing immersive experiences around sustainability, wellness, healthcare, and so much more.”

This is just an offline advanced prototyping tool (not metaverse)… but made me think: how long before we'll be able to watch a football match in a virtual stadium? Maybe with personalised adds on the sides? :-)

And a weekend read
The case for demanding “immersive rights” in the metaverse
The Metaverse could be the most dangerous tool of persuasion humanity has ever created.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The metaverse is set to transform how we buy goods and services and interact with each other.
Although many of these changes could be positive, AR and VR technologies could also enable advertisers and propagandists to manipulate us in subtle yet effective ways.
Policymakers and tech companies should begin thinking about how to guarantee basic "immersive rights" in the metaverse.

Well done, Em. Nice weekly digest!
@Gregor - Yes, there are a few - some visible some less so - amongst those publicly announced you will see AXA (buying land in one of the metaverses and establishing a dedicated investment fund) as well as ERGO who has been experimenting with using VR to train their workforce. I would bet there is much more brewing under the surface ;-)
